Freshman. Steps to enjoy Freshman year!

The biggest adventure a young adult can experience is growing up while exploring the unknown and overcoming every obstacle life has given this person throughout the years. One major obstacle they have to rise above is the change from being a high school student to a college student. This transition might sound somehow like a difficult task, but in reality it just takes compromise, a good attitude, and responsibility. There are a number of advices these persons can take into consideration in order to begin their college years as a Freshman in a correct way so that after that, he enjoys to the fullest what everyone call “the best days of their lives”.
Primary, everybody is aware that the most difficult and uncomfortable part of going to college is actually entering the school and going to the very first class. The student has to remember he/she is not the only freshman in the whole institution. There are many others who fear their first day. What they are all missing is confidence. With confidence, the student will feel positive about what they are doing and everything will seem easier that what it already is. Facing the situation with joy and optimism will make the experience a pleasant one.
Secondly, many people when starting college, pick the easiest classes for their first year since they believe it is the best decision. That way they will be able to get used to the college program little by little and not pressure themselves with studying. As logical as it may sound, it is not agreeable to do so. Choosing the easiest classes for the first year will make the rest of the years complicated and time taking. The best decision is to balance the hard classes with the easy classes, so that way they will get used to what they will be facing through the rest of the college years.
Finally, everyone is aware that one of the biggest change in going to college is the amount of freedom. It is obvious that the student will have more liberty since he/she is facing the stage where people has to become more independent. The problem is that many do not know how to take advantage of it. This is where responsibility plays an important role. The student has to learn to manage their liberty and know there is a limit. This limit will permit the student to balance their studying time with their time to have fun so that the real purpose of being in college does not fade away at any time.
In brief, the adjustment of becoming a freshman student is not as difficult as it sounds. It just takes compromise and a positive attitude from the student so that everything is as great as it is meant to be. Being a freshman is a responsibility as much as it is an opportunity that one has to take advantage of in order to become better persons in life.

To Relax: The Stars

The world is filled up with various beautiful panoramas that can brighten up people’s hearts and can help them develop as more peaceful and relaxing persons. Since many people are different, every one of them enjoys the beauty of nature in a unique way. On my opinion, the best way to enjoy it is by lying down on the grass and contemplating everything around me since it brings to my life peace, tranquility and harmony. Every time I am feeling bored at night, and I decide to take a break from the worldly activities (by worldly I refer to energetic, laborious, or tiring activities), I look for an isolated place where the grass is fresh and my view to the sky is as clear as a fragile glass that has been cleaned with a tender care. Most of the time I head off to the university’s field or if I am home, I head off to its garden or to my neighborhood’s park. I try wearing comfortable clothing such as fresh pants or soft shorts, with a sleeveless shirt. I also go by myself since that way I know I won’t be having anyone talking or distracting me while I am trying to separate myself from everyone else. Once I have founded the perfect spot that fills up all my expectations towards being on a nice place to enjoy the stars, I lay on my back. It is easy to sense how the grass softly pokes me with kindness. It is exceptional, feeling how it is tickling my skin and how it gives me goosebumps by making all the small hairs in my arms and legs stand up. Suddenly, my back starts feeling its freshness and really enjoys the sensation. I try to find the most comfortable position, where my whole body feels as relaxed as possible.
Immediately, I turn my eyes towards the sky. What I distinguish is amazing and magical. The stars shining and twinkling, each of them at their own rhythm. They all look like pearls and diamonds that God might have thrown over the sky for humans on Earth to get delighted with its view. The stars seem as distant as celestial bodies that are winking from time to time. If I am lucky enough, I can also see some shooting stars that run around the dark and enormous sky and, milliseconds later, hide themselves from the human’s eye. It is even better when the sky is very dark and the stars illuminate the heavens. It makes me feel that the stars are sprinkles of sugar, or that they are a carpet made up of glitter from up high.
At the same time, I can perceive the smell of fresh plants. It is somehow like a minty air mixed up with other odors that are hard to describe but splendid to feel. This smell helps me even more to forget about reality and to travel to a more peaceful dimension where nature shows to me various visions of what true beauty really is. All this is accompanied by a melodious sound that my ears really enjoy which is complemented by nearby trees that dance with the wind, the soft humming of birds that are about to go to sleep, and the creek-creek of insects that all together make up what I call the “Nature Song”.
I really like having all these mixed feelings on my insides while lying on my back over the fresh grass and enjoying the beautiful view of stars shining towards me from up above.  It helps me relax and pull myself away from the distractions of the contaminated environment that most of the time makes me get stressed and sometimes not even understand the reasons of why, at that time ,I am feeling a little weird with myself or uncomfortable in a certain place. I believe this is a common but unique and breathtaking experience that everyone should try at least once in their lives to loosen up, feel alive and feel recovered.

Helping Others Bring Smiles

It all began on Sunday morning. I woke up at 5:50 am. I went to take a hot shower, and felt really awake since I had gotten to sleep early the night before. I was going to go to a mission trip of my school that day. When I entered my room after I had showered, I noticed my sister had left me a note that said the mass for 6:30am, before we left to the mission trip, had been canceled. I felt a little disappointed, but still got changed and waited for everyone else to wake up. We left the university at around 9:00 am. We got there and everybody knew what we had to do. It was an amazing experience. Helping other people. Teaching them about the gospel. Even when coloring with other kids we had to talk to them about God and how much he loves us and take care of us. We did a puppet show for them, and a show of various dances. We also celebrated mass with them at around 12:00 pm. We had a great time. This experience helped me see that little moments can make people forget about their problems. This l ittle moments can show yourself and others that there is people in worst situations and they still manage to smile at least once or twice a day.

Understanding Missunderstandings

A story i wrote with some friends to make people understand that sometimes some actions have to be seen from different perspectives and not by what you've been told.

Tom and Julia gave each other a big hug with love and happiness. At the same time, they heard the competition was going to start. They both headed towards the stage and performed their best in front of a large audience. As they had always dreamed, they won the competition. Both of them made the best couple ever. It was the best day of their lives. Even though one hour before they had to go through some personal troubles that they had to overcome.
As Julia was getting ready for the dancing competition, the phone rang. She ran, still barefoot, to pick it up. It was Tom calling her to announce her that he had just received a call that Michael was in the hospital because he had gotten into a car accident. “What? How could this happen? I have to go see him!” He immediately replied, “No! No! Wait! I’m driving towards your house right now! You can’t leave the competition at last minute! This has been your life dream!” Julia said, “But… how do you expect me to stay here, arm-crossed, waiting for you to come, when Michael is harmed?” Then he answered, “Why would you even be worrying about someone who…” Silence filled up the air and seconds later Julia said, “Tom… Is there something I don’t know? What do you mean?” Tom answered, “I’m sorry to be the one telling you this, especially at a moment like this… but yes Julia, it is the truth. Michael has been dating Rebecca behind your back since a couple of weeks. Let it go, and let me dance with you in the competition.”
With this said, Julia got really disappointed and angry. She accepted Tom’s proposal. She ran back upstairs to finish on putting on her black shoes and fixed her hair as fast as she could. Five minutes later, Tom picked up Julia, and fortunately they arrived on time. She felt extremely nervous since she was not sure if Tom was as good a dancer as Michael, but still she was willing to take the chance.
Just a few minutes before the competition was about to start, Julia heard Michael’s voice calling her from far away. She thought it was part of her imagination since she clearly knew he was hospitalized. However, Michael was really there. She turned around and saw him standing tall as usual with a big smile on his face. His small blue eyes were looking towards her green eyes. Julia’s surprised face turned into a confused one. She was now standing clueless. While she started walking towards him she said, “How dare you do this to me!?” Michael was now confused as well. Then he asked disconcerted, “What are you talking about? I thought you liked red roses?” Julia noticed he had been carrying a bouquet of roses. She felt more confused than ever, then she asked, “Michael…What is really going on!?” He then told her that he had the same question. Julia explained to him what Tom had told her earlier before. Michael looked at her very surprised. Julia added, “I do not really know what is happening with both of you. I am not an object which you can play with! Why didn't you call me?”Michael spoke very disconcerted, “I do not think that about you! Look, I just wanted to surprise you. I am so sorry; I thought we liked each other.” He replied very disappointed. He explained to Julia that he had called Tom to ask him a favor which was to take her to the competition in order to buy her the bouquet. Julia was shocked.
By the time they were arguing, Michael turned his face towards Tom and said, “Why would you betray me like that? We were supposed to be best friends! That's why I asked you for this favor!” As Michael ended the phrase, Julia came up to him and slapped Tom's face saying, “You're such a hypocrite, I thought you supported me and you were trying to help us!'' Tom felt very guilty. He then apologized and understood that lying is not the best way to show his feelings towards someone, especially if it would hurt his loved ones. He told them that he got carried away by jealousy and that he would never do it again. Tom walked away. Julia and Michael solved the misunderstanding and went on stage to perform their best.

Cheating in School

Universities, schools and many other educational institutions, many times have to struggle different immoral situations that are hard to control. Trying to manage a better place of honor includes the wanting their entire students to fulfill their studies in an integer way. All institutions are willing to teach the student not only the importance of mathematical, philosophical and other studies, but the importance of values as well. During the process of education, many institutions have to struggle with some impediments that can make some students follow wrong paths of life. There are many of these wrong situations that surround the educational environment, but one of the main dishonest activities that some students practice without even knowing that they are only harming themselves, is cheating.
Cheating is finding a creative way of lying that students use in tests, or any activity, were they are supposed to show their skills and all that they have learned during a certain time without any help. Many students are unable to accomplish such exams in an honest way since they are lazy, irresponsible or just didn’t get the chance to study the day before. All this pushes the student to reach for desperate solutions which are cheating. Sadly cheating has been practiced since the early days of educational history. In most of the places, not only in Nicaragua, but all around the world, cheating is compared to lying and stealing. Another bad habit students have that can be compared to cheating is Plagiarism. Each and every one is a bad example on many things a student can do, in a negative way, to achieve what they want.
Nowadays, children, teenagers and even young adults have found multiple ways of cheating. It is sometimes consider an art in view of the fact that one has to learn how to do it in order to actually perform it; since the main goal of this wrong activity is, mainly, to not get caught by any person who might sentence this action. These persons are mainly known as teachers or people who are in high ranges in the educational buildings. Their job is to help the institution maintain a clear quality on every aspect. For this, they have to learn all the tricks and hidden ways of cheating any of their students might bring up at the testing time. By knowing all, or at least most of them, they achieve more knowledge on how to catch or suspect on any of their unethical students.
The form and imaginative way a student can cheat may vary depending on how inspired or desperate the student is at the time. No matter how much a teacher has studied on their early years, if they don’t know the many ways a student can cheat, they won’t be able to catch one as easy as the one who knows. First of all, pieces of paper play an important role on cheating. Students write the valuable information, small quotes or words that will remind them of the actual information. Then, they look for a number of ways to hide that little paper in order to be able to check on it at the time of the exam. Cheating can come in the form of a pen. As interesting as it sounds, it is true. After the student has prepared the tiny piece of paper then they summit it to wrap around the inside of the pen, or sometimes mechanical pencil, where the ink part is; making sure that the pen has a transparent cover for them to be able to see such paper. Another form cheating can take is sometimes called the “magic mirror”. This mostly consists on pasting the small paper under the desk, then taping a small mirror on ones foot. That way the information on the paper can be seen from under and the student just has to do a small backward motion , or move their foot in order to make the mirror focus on the paper under the desk and transmit it to the eyes of the student. Also, cheating can take the form of cell phones or calculators. Students type in information or simply paste little paper at the back of it trying to make it less noticeable for others. Like these, there are many other ways cheating can be done in very secrete ways and this ways can take very interesting forms. Teachers have to investigate and sometimes use their imaginations in order to try to understand the youth mind and try to figure out ways that their tests can be “vandalized” in order to protect them, not taking out of consideration the fact that they also can warn their students of the consequences this bad behavior brings to their personal life.
Teachers should mention to their students that cheating is very bad. If they do so, they are saving many students from actually thinking on cheating since it would bring some fear to them. Many institutions make students recompense their mistake in many different ways. Clearly warning the student will help them understand that cheating is not something an honest person will do and probably a percentage of students will scratch cheating from their “ to do” list. It will also help the students understand that the only person they are harming is themselves. Making belief that they know the answers of the test when they really don’t, is not a satisfactory thing to do. It is better to try in an honest way than fool oneself with something that will not take anyone far towards their actual goal.
All in all, cheating is a dishonest thing to do when taking a test or trying to show someone of one’s skills. Many students decide to practice this bad habit in order to fool everyone else that they really know what they are suppose to know at their certain age or a certain moment. These ignorant people find out many interesting ways to cheat without being caught by anyone else believing they are only fooling everyone, but for what is even worse, they are not fooling themselves but actually damaging themselves. Therefore, teachers must be aware that most of the time there is at least someone with the intention of cheating running around their heads and ready to make a move when the teacher is unaware. In addition, teachers should learn or try to figure out the many forms cheating can take at the time of the exam, because that way they will be able to think like their students and catch anyone who is trying to disrespect their teachers and ,worst of all, themselves.

What can i ask myself to understand me a little better?

The Wise Choice Process,is a process of questioning yourself about things that you can relate to, in order to understand yourself better.
This is an example of one responded by myself.

What’s my present situation?
I don’t know what my major will be. I really think I can become anything when I grow up because I’m interested in almost everything available. It seems delightful to think of myself as a business person, as well as a scientific person, or a lawyer or anything possible. I think all the majors are fascinating and it frustrates me to not have chosen a major yet, the one ill have to stick with throughout my whole life.

2. How would I like my situation to be?
I would like to be sure about my major. I would like to find a major which I identify myself the most, and to enjoy the major too.

3. Do I have a choice here?
            Yes I do.

4. What are my possible choices?
I can talk to a psychologist about my situation and go step by step with him or her about my likes and few dislikes and then maybe do a list and take out the majors with less possibilities of staying in the top, and finally choose one.
I can also talk to different teachers of different careers and majors and see which one sounds better and relates more with me.

5. What’s the likely outcome of each possible choice?
Well I think it is pretty simple. I think that no matter what choice I stay with, at the end, I will find out which one I want my major to be , and ill do anything to succeed on it.

6. Which choice(s) will I commit to doing?
I think I will try both of my choices because all of them are helpful and will help me develop my enthusiasm towards an specific major.

After answering all 6 questions, you can write about what you learned about yourself, in order to know and understand yourself better.
Hope it helps! J

Hint to know yourself a little better!

This I learned in one of my freshman classes. Hope it helps you.

Gather a journal and a pencil together and sit in a place where no one will bother.

In your journal, write a list of ten or more of your personal strengths or qualities.
 For example:
Mentally: I’m good at math, good at reading and understanding , good memorizing and   studying.
Physically: I’m athletic, good dancer, good with any kind of instruments and singing, good with art.
Emotionally: Really happy, funny.
Socially: great friend, helper, good listener, caring.
Others:

Then, write a list of ten or more of your personal weaknesses.Which would be like your defects.

Mentally: bad with remembering something I was told to do, hard for me to make decisions.
Physically: a little lazy,
Emotionally: stubborn,
Socially: shy at the beginning of meeting someone, bad with talking in public
Others:

Last, analize what you discovered about yourself and write it down in order to assimilate the information, understanding that you are good in some ways but still need to fix other aspects of your life to be a better person J .

I considerate my self esteem to be pretty good. I believe in myself 100% and I know I’m capable of doing a lot of things with effort and dedication. I don’t regret anything I’ve done in my life so far and im happy of the person im becoming. I need to fix some things life setting goals, but apart from that everything is good. Even though I feel really secure about myself, what the book suggested really relates to me somehow. I do have problems with things and actions I need to accomplish. I really don’t identify them so it is hard for me to focus on one because I don’t have it really clear. I think I have to concentrate more on my goals, like I said before, and do several things to accomplish them.
